Blog Tour for Thirsty by Tracey Bateman

About This Book from Waterbrookmultnomah.com

There's no place like home, they say.
"Hello, I'm Nina Parker…and I'm an alcoholic."

For Nina, it's not the weighty admission but the first steps toward recovery that prove most difficult. She must face her ex-husband, Hunt, with little hope of making amends, and try to rebuild a relationship with her angry teenage daughter, Meagan. Hardest of all, she is forced to return to Abbey Hills, Missouri, the hometown she abruptly abandoned nearly two decades earlier–and her unexpected arrival in the sleepy Ozark town catches the attention of someone–or something–igniting a two-hundred-fifty-year-old desire that rages like a wildfire.
Unaware of the darkness stalking her, Nina is confronted with a series of events that threaten to unhinge her sobriety. Her daughter wants to spend time with the parents Nina left behind. A terrifying event that has haunted Nina for almost twenty years begins to surface. And an alluring neighbor initiates an unusual friendship with Nina, but is Markus truly a kindred spirit or a man guarding dangerous secrets?
As everything she loves hangs in the balance, will Nina's feeble grasp on her demons be broken, leaving her powerless against the thirst? The battle between redemption and obsession unfold to its startling, unforgettable end.

My Review
I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I start reading “Thirsty” since I have never read a Christian Vampire story before. But I was immediately engrossed in the story. To me it was a story of fighting our demons and starting over. Nina Parker grew up with an alcoholic Father and started drinking at a very early age. By the time she had her children had gone thru rehab twice. The second time she had hit rock bottom losing her Veterinary clinic and her family. She decided to move back home to the Ozark mountain area in Missouri to get her act together. Nina’s ex husband Hunt has planned for their teenage daughter Meg to spend spring break in Missouri. Meg is not happy with spending time with her mother for she believes Nina does not love or care about her family. However she is looking forward to meeting her grandparents for the first time. They are staying in Nina’s sister Jill's house while they are there and meet her unusual but very friendly neighbor Markus.
Markus seems to good to be true and Nina finds herself wary of his intentions.
Later we find that Markus is fighting demons his own and has been hiding his own secrets for a very long time. Jill is the sheriff of the town and as soon as they arrive strange things begin to happen. Animals are found slaughtered and their sleepy little town is rocked by a gruesome murder.
I found the story a little confusing at times when it switched to Hunt’s story and his life with Nina. There were also flashbacks at the beginning of each chapter with
snippets of Nina’s life up until her trip to Abbey Hills. I did find the flashbacks helpful however in explaining Nina’s battle with alcoholism and why she left her hometown. It wasn’t my usual vampire story but at the same time I found it very worthwhile and just couldn’t close the book until I found out how the story unfolded. This would make a worthwhile book discussion pick for a church or library book club and it also includes discussion questions.

4 out of 5 stars.

This sounds like a very good read. I have to admit I have not read anything by Tracey Bateman. Her book has a little bit of everything in it. And, of course, I love vampires :) Congrats on the 4 stars. I will have to check her and her books out!!
